Cannot Make It (CMI) Indon/Msia press (warning: rant below)

Good grief, it’s a sorry newspaper that has multiple O-level (make that PSLE) grade mistakes even a kid like me could spot.

Ok, so this has been going on for months now but this is the LAST STRAW I swear. Reading the Jakarta Post (Indonesia’s flagship newspaper) and/or The New Straits Times (Malaysia’s) as part of my job, I keep coming across blatant grammatical or even spelling (!!!) errors. Can’t a nation (even one steeped in economic turmoil and military strife) even dredge up some journalists/editors with a something approaching a decent command of English?!?!

(And excuse me, but ‘bending your principals’ is a rather rude thing to do to the highest authority in school--I believe that the phrase you’re looking for is ‘bending your principles.’)

And these are their MAIN papers, mind you. Don’t get me started on their smaller papers and tabloids.

I’m thankful that while Singapore doesn’t exactly have a free press, at least it’s a COMPETENTLY un-free press. =P
