Juniorboon
Not to make myself sound like a big-hearted philanthropist, but am currently in the midst of collecting Fragments of Useful Stuff and Other Insightful Notes for my juniors, since I’m going back to VJ tmr. Of course, I had to drag myself away from Net surfing, newspaper-reading, book-bingeing and schedule-planning, but it’s kind of fun, after a while, digging out 9-month-old files musty with Ancient Arcane Knowledge of A-level yore.
Oh, and I NEED to get back my Econs S file. It’s been on loan since…April? I hope it’s not lost, it contains most of my Econs S knowledge (silly of me not to have made a backup, but ohwell).
And to bemused readers: yes I’m trying to preserve my A level notes so I don’t backslide before Uni. If anything I’m trying to get some reading (and hopefully even some research) done during these two remaining years of captivity, in an attempt to not just hit the ground running, but hit the ground flying (ignore the contradiction) when I step into Duke. Hopefully when I enter Uni I’ll know as much as a second-year student (though considering that the girls my age will be third-years, that’s still some lag.) But learning is like a balanced diet and I’m missing out on another component. Just as important as reading is the talking—the intellectual conversations where ideas and budding thoughts are thrashed out or junked in favour of better thought-out concepts/theories. And I’m not getting quite enough of that. I’ll have to find a way round that, or be educationally malnourished. =(
Let’s all say it again: NS rots your brain. And yet mine’s already a relatively intellectual job, plus I’m resisting the pernicious brain-deadening effect as best I can. I wonder how others are faring? And how do Singaporean guys handle their first month of Uni? Seems to me that many will conceivably enter (almost) empty-headed, and get promptly overwhelmed.
