9 Oct: Juniorboon 2
So. Today I went back to VJ purportedly to give my junior a talk on scholarships and US Uni admissions, in the Lang Lab. Dropped by the Choir Room, but only Enqi there, and she said my Econs S file was with Joshua, so will have to hound him for it. School was pretty empty (promos+study leave for J2s). VJ much the same, but some landscaping done, noticeably outside the Teacher’s Offices.
Talk was great fun actually. Had a field day answering questions about US, scholarships and sharing about my all too brief 3-day visit to the 3 US Unis. Felt good to be sharing my experiences and the occasional trials (and trauma) with my juniors. And my juniors were pretty sharp (and had clearly done their research) with their questions: issues about NS, scholarship bond etc. Also spoke at considerable length about my Angier B. scholarship cos it’s pretty off the beaten track and most don’t know it exists, so figured they would like to know (they certainly did, once they found it was bond-free =p) I was somewhat under-prepared, but nothing a second visit-and-answer session to VJ wouldn’t take care of.
Gave out my email address after it was over, but also continued to share for those who stayed back after the talk was officially over. Also showed Mr Ho my AB Duke scholarship cert, promised to zap a copy for VJ posterity (they deserve part credit, at least). Was thanked by the teachers (though it was pretty fun for me too, which was why I didn’t mind going down in the first place). The juniors are an interesting lot—an S1 Lit-lover, couple of biologists, a budding psychologist, etc, though I didn’t get any names though =p
Well, my good deed for the day! *feels warm and fuzzy inside*
