The Hum of the World

It is fiendishly tough to give up smoking. I should know. What is the world but a large cigar? Its myriad of affairs and numb cogs is like crack, intoxicating and far more insidiously habit-forming than dirty nicotine.

And like a condemned smoker, I know all this to be true. But this truth, contrary to the popular saying, sets nobody free. It is easy to know you've got to give up smoking. It is another thing altogether to buckle down, and take that step.
