First things first, vocal exploits was entertaining, esp the small groups. Note I said entertaining, not good. I regret to report that RJ's basses are woefully underpowered, and I was uncomfortable with the interpretation of a good many songs I'm familiar with (being under Nelson all these years, and hence musically biased).

That aside, the gems in VE included Dischordant, which I judged to be the best overall 'small group' that performed for VE. They had great musicality combined with considerable showmanship, so they deserved top spot in my heart. Coming in a close second was the ensemble which, though had little showmanship (it's more like a small choir after all) undoubtedly showcased the better singers RJ had to offer. As for PUNCH, that incorrigibly neurotic bunch of people =p, I cannot rate them as they go so far into their wacky antics that they are more entertainers than artists, so I cannot judge them on artistic merit. As entertainers though they do a damn good job. Though maybe it’s only because I’m a Rafflesian that I actually understand the lame humour.

As usual met up with old friends during and after the thing, though few from my batch came down. A nice time overall. (mental note to self: still haven’t paid for my $15 ticket…)
