Writer's Block Blog-ck

Yeah, terrible pun I know. Blogging's been interfering with my writing. Just as good is the enemy of the best, blogging is the enemy of true writing. I find I cannot write white-hot (or even red-hot or, even merely-hot) poetry/prose when I blog regularly. Josh is right: blogging is like the literary equivalent of premature ejaculation, or perhaps (more accurately) like premature birth, resulting in stillborn thoughts. Before I catch thoughts and hastily put them on paper (or comp screen), I ought to let them ferment, grow and intensify. Because when thought is translated into words, it loses some unquantifiable part of its essence even as the words pin it into place, transforming it and delinating the thought so that all can read and comprehend. It's like pressing a flower into a botanical sketchbook--it quantifies the flower as an object of scientific study, highlighting its biological characteristics for all to see, but at the same time the flower dies, can no longer grow, ripen or bear fruit.

I probably won’t go on a blog-hiatus (so do keeping coming every week or so), but there’ll probably be fewer entries--but those few will be more meaningful (I hope).
