Moi, the human lie detector!
Sort of. Was mucking around the BBC website when I stumbled on this quiz section of theirs. There are several neat quizzes (reputedly by known profs, which I suppose makes it a step up from Quizzilla et al, seriousness-wise)
Among them was a neat quiz on how well you could tell genuine smiles from fake ones. The quiz claimed that Most people are surprisingly bad at spotting fake smiles. One possible explanation for this is that it may be easier for people to get along if they don't always know what others are really feeling. Smelling a challenge, I took the quiz and got an impressive 16 right out of 20 faces. Yay me. Scoundrels, swindlers and con-artists beware!
Possible explanations for my natural fake-o-meter:
1) Screw this, I rarely care if newly-met people get along with me, why delude myself over a fake (or genuine) smile?
2) Am naturally Cynical (in the Greek sense) anyway. No point wearing rose-tinted or grey-tinted glasses. I also keep my hands in/on my pockets on crowed trains, and check my pockets every time I get jostled in the streets. Doesn't matter if I'm jostled by a huge black guy with shades, or a little old lady with her marketing.
3) Introverted. I’m quiet not because I’m oblivious, but because I’m watching. Very. Carefully.
Being the introspective sort I also did the personality test thingum of theirs, getting the result of Mastermind, which was just one step away from the (coveted?) type of Leader. The only difference between the two was on the Introvert vs Extrovert axis. So I’m like Karl Rove instead of Bush Jr. The insidious power behind the throne. Muhahaha.
