Friendship—what defines it? Your willingness to sacrifice, or the other party’s, or both?
Seriously, leaving for overseas is like preparing your funeral: the prepared farewells, the settling of your affairs, etc. All that’s missing is the will. Heh.
Still haven’t come up with what to do for my birthday, other than the vague idea that many small gatherings will be better than one large one (to avoid people-clumping). But others have suggested that cost-wise, one big party is the way to go. True. Hm.
To be Christian is to be torn apart in many directions, is to live in terrible tension. To be pure yet living in this fallen world. To be godly but living in the domain of the prince of the air. To celebrate our joyful life that was gained through His mournful death.
Perhaps the greatest and somewhat ironic tension is this: to be Christian is to feel that we’re being pulled in a billion different directions—when in reality, we’re only being drawn in one. =)
After talking to a friend, I think I have a better idea of what equanimity is. It is not resignation. It is not being at peace with what you are. It is being at peace with what you are and what you will become and will strive to become.
